Therapy FAQs
-
Sex therapy is a non-touch, clothes-on, talk therapy that is focused on working with people around sexual issues such as sexual dysfunction, desire differences, infidelity, kink/BDSM/polyamory, or struggles around their sexual or gender identities. Sex therapy can be done both in individual or couples sessions depending on your needs and goals. Sex therapists are also trained to work with general mental health needs and substance abuse, and can provide a thorough assessment and treatment plan to work with your sexuality concerns as well as other needs you might have.

At Oh My Pleasure, we value your privacy and believe that your therapist is the best qualified to make decisions about your care. For this reason we remain out of network with insurance. Insurance providers have the ability to request copies of notes from your sessions, ask questions of the therapist, and dictate care as they see fit. Unfortunately we have found that those practices are not supportive of the level of privacy that our work requires, and so we made the decision not to work directly with insurance providers. However, we can provide an invoice that you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance, and many of our clients are successful in getting reimbursed. We can also charge HSA cards, and our services are usually reimbursable by FSAs as well.

Both! We offer in person sessions in Phoenix, AZ at our office in Arcadia, and telehealth services for anyone who prefers virtual sessions or who may be too far away to come in person. We have therapists licensed in New Mexico and Texas who are happy to meet virtually in those states.

After your intake session you and your therapist can work together to determine the best frequency for your goals, budget, and schedule. Some clients prefer weekly sessions to quickly build rapport and achieve goals more efficiently, while some prefer to come every 2-3 weeks to have more time in between sessions to process. Barring a crisis where higher frequency is necessary, this is up to your preference and what you feel you need to achieve your goals. At Oh My Pleasure we believe in flexibility and will work with you to create a schedule that suits your needs.
-
The therapists at Oh My Pleasure are focused on sexuality related needs, but also have training and experience working with general mental health and substance abuse concerns, as well as more intensive psychiatric needs. We will tailor a treatment plan to meet your specific needs and goals, and if we feel we cannot meet your needs we have an extensive referral list of skilled therapists and can help you find the right fit.

At Oh My Pleasure we support couples with erotic conflicts and foundational communication concerns, but we do not work with high conflict couples. “High conflict” is defined as frequent volatile arguments that involve yelling, breaking things, intimidation, violence, or threats of violence, and relationships where one or both parties do not feel safe. If this is true for your relationship then you may wish to seek out a high conflict therapist who can assist you in reducing the severity of your conflicts so you can better hear each other. The therapists at Oh My Pleasure are trained to assess conflict cycles and if we determine that you are embedded in a conflict cycle that requires a higher level of intervention, we are happy to refer you to a provider who can support you. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out to us and we can provide guidance for next steps.
-
While our therapists are trained to work with compulsive and out of control sexual behavior, we are not approved by the courts to provide any sort of court ordered treatment, and we do not meet the requirements for sex offender treatment or work with non-consensual sexual behavior. If you have pending or current charges related to a sexual crime, we recommend going through your attorney or the court system for a treatment recommendation to ensure that the treatment you receive will meet your requirements.

We have therapists licensed throughout the southwest, and have options for consultation and coaching services in other states. If you’re unsure about your options and would like to discuss it further, please feel free to reach out to us. We’re happy to help however we can.
Training and Workshop FAQs:
-
Our trainer is an AASECT approved CE provider and all professional trainings have the option for AASECT CEs. Most state boards accept AASECT CEs for all licenses and specialties, and we encourage you to reach out to your state board to ensure that AASECT CEs will count for your state requirements.
-
Trainings are for mental health and medical professionals seeking to expand their knowledge of sexual health within the context of their work. Workshops are for members of the general public who wish to deepen their understanding of pleasure, desire, sexuality, and relationship communication. Trainings require a professional license to attend while workshops are accessible to anyone.
-
Workshops are educational and provide information about sexual health and wellness without requiring personal details, treatment planning or goals, or utilizing specific therapeutic approaches. Group therapy requires an intake session to assess goals and ensure that the group will meet needs. Therapy groups are a form of therapeutic intervention while workshops are purely educational. Group therapy involves smaller groups and requires participation from all in attendance, while workshops can be much larger groups and do not require as much direct participation.
